There’s no doubt at all that one of the best excursions of our family holidays in Ibiza is going on a day-trip to Formentera.
Not only to see the nooks and beaches of one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean, but for all the preparation we have to do the day before. Having a family excursion is all an adventure!
We have to prepare backpacks, cooler bag, swimsuits, a change of clothes, sun caps, water, snacks, fruit, sunscreen, sunglasses, towels … all wrapped in the illusion that … We’re going to Formentera!!
To get there, by boat, of course. You can get on one at the port of Ibiza at almost any hour, or at any other point of the island where there is a pier. There are several boat companies that take you from the areas of San Antonio and San Jose, and from the east from Santa Eulalia and its beaches.
When you get there you need other means of transport: bike, motorbike, car … according to your plans it will be more convenient to use one or another.
A bike is perfect for a day at the beach of Illetas which is near the port and is acknowledged as one of the top 10 beaches in the world. Very important, bringa beach umbrella and lots of water, as there is no shade where to find cover.
A motorbike is the best way to get to know all the island since you can move more freely and drive on narrow paths to discover secret coves.
You won’t have time to see everything on only one day so choose wisely what to do and see out of all the possibilities.
And also, Formentera is not an island to just get there, make a selfie and go somewhere else, to really live her you have to stay and enjoy every place making time for it.
These are places that you mustn’t miss in Formentera that you’ll have to discover in different visits to the island.
Faro de la Mola: We call this lighthouse ‘the end of the world’ due to the feeling you get when sitting on the steep cliff and observing the immensity of the sea.
Faro Cap de Barbaria: The best thing about this lighthouse is the narrow path to reach it. And if you go on a motorbike you can imagine being the protagonist of a film by Julio Medem. Just to the right will find a hole in the ground through which you enter a cave that opens into the cliff.
As to the beaches they are all amazing. The colour of the water is indescribable and not even the best cameras can capture the feeling of beauty and disbelief you feel when you stand before them. It is Paradise.
Illetas is best known for its curious elongated shape with banks on both sides, East and West.
The beach of Es Pujols is one of our favorite because it isn’t very crowded in summer and since it is in the village you can spend all day there and have lunch at one of its bars and restaurants.
And a wonderful nook is Caló des Moro where you’ll feel the true essence of Formentera.
The only bad thing is when you have to go back and say goodbye to this wonderful island. Although there is always a next trip to continue discovering her.
