At various times of the year and in different villages of Ibiza, traditions are still preserved such as celebrating certain festivities in the street, around the fountains and wells of the main squares.
These occasions have a very festive family atmosphere in which those present enjoy the company of neighbours, friends and loved ones amongst games, typical food and beverages and traditional music and dances. The best thing is that everyone is welcome to enjoy themselves.
The traditional dance of Ibiza is the “Ball pagès”, an ancient dance in which the man invites the woman to dance with a strong stroke of castanets.
The dancers, both men and women, dress in elaborate colourful costumes and traditional jewellery called “emprendadas”. The traditional music that accompanies the dance is played with flutes, drums and castanets. It is believed that these dances originated out of ritual dances in honour of the moon and out of fertility and festive dances.
It is a small part of the traditions of Ibiza that we cannot miss and that makes us love the island a little more. Let’s preserve the traditions of each place, they are our history, our life.
