I woke up, very early, with an overwhelming desire to ski in Megève, I looked out the window of my room, the panes full of water droplets letting the mountains, the village and the storm that was coming be seen, and I thought of Geneva.
I went down to breakfast at the hotel buffet and heard other guests commenting that, seeing the weather, they had approached the ski slopes and found them closed, for one or two days only, with luck. So I wondered what to do, maybe visit the city of Geneva, I had really woken up with lots of energy and I didn’t want to spend the day in the hotel writing and drinking coffee, that I could do some other time.
Fully disposed, I had breakfast, went up to the room to fetch the camera and to change my skiing outfit for a more city-look, I came down, started my rental car and drove for about an hour until I reached the most international city in Switzerland.
After leaving the underground parking, the first thing I encountered was the Lehman Lake and the famous water jet (Jet d’eau), one of the most iconic symbols of the city reaching a height of 140 meters.
Most of the large hotel and many restaurants are locates on one of the shores of the lake , on the other side, the old town with the shopping district at its foot, where you can spend a whole day shopping and find the most exclusive and luxurious brands in the world, as well as more common brands.
I decided to spend the day walking the streets of the old town, where I fell in love with its alleys, the elegance of the shops, the cold air of the stone walls harmonised with violin music, displays of chocolate … I found the cathedral of St-Pierre and walked around it up to a small park from where you could see the whole city with those big, beautiful buildings, in sober colours but with a funny twist.
To end the day I sat in the oldest square of the city (du Bourg-de-Four) and watched the people walking, elegant, stylish, a fashion magazine in motion … then it was time to go home, to Royal Rochebrune, but before and to warm up, a coffee shop fit for a movie, a tea and a chocolate, so well done it clouds the senses.
